description
The complexity of O.F. Egginton & Co.'s prized Trellis pattern is displayed in all its glory upon this breathtaking American Brilliant Period cut glass tray. The Trellis pattern was patented in 1908 and is perhaps one of the rarest, most sought-after of the great American Brilliant Period patterns. The exceptional fortune to find a specimen of this excellent condition and quality is beyond compare.

The art of Oliver Egginton provides one of the best examples of the American Brilliant Period cut glass tradition. American cut glass won world acclaim in the 19th and 20th centuries, recognized for its superiority and advanced glass-making methods. Cut glass is glass that has been decorated entirely by hand, making it extremely expensive and out of reach to all but the affluent class. It thus became a symbol of elegance and leisure, and demand for beautiful glass products spurred intense competition and creativity within the industry. O.F. Egginton Company was renowned for providing some of the finest and most inspired pieces of any other maker during the Brilliant Period.

A similar piece is pictured on page 243 in Rarities in American Cut Glass by Herbert Wiener and Freda Lipkowitz.
