This one-of-a-kind brooch boasts a history that is out of this world. The piece was crafted by the legendary jewelers Van Cleef & Arpels and presented to Neil Armstrong after his famed mission aboard Apollo 11. The brooch commemorates Armstrong's remarkable achievement during the lunar landing, when he became the first man to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969. Over one-fifth of the world's population watched this amazing first step, which was among humanity's greatest triumphs of exploration.

Crafted of 18K yellow gold, this brooch takes the shape of the lunar surface, complete with a textured design that mimics its craters and rocky terrain. Six gemstones are set into the design - the diamond represents the very spot where the lunar vessel Eagle landed, while the five rubies that surround it designate the area where Armstrong explored.

The important brooch was presented to Armstrong following his return to Earth, and was subsequently worn by his wife during their 38-day "Giant Leap" goodwill tour. The tour spanned the globe, taking the astronauts across the country and the world to meet with dignitaries, world leaders and even royalty. Rarely does such a storied piece of jewelry come to the market, particularly one by a great jeweler such as Van Cleef & Arpels.

The brooch is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the Armstrong Family Collection.
