description
Charming elves frolic in the jewel-toned forest in this magnificent Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre porcelain "antique centre" bowl adorned with the Woodland Bridge pattern. The exterior of the bowl presents the stunning fantasy scene against a striking dark luster background, while on the interior, the Woodland Elves VII – Toadstool motif depicts fairies and imps amongst toadstools in the forest.

Introduced by Wedgwood artist Daisy Makeig-Jones in 1915, Fairyland Lustre marked a true departure from the factory's history of classic design and subdued colors. Makeig-Jones' work was rooted in fairytales and literally bursts with brilliant colors, alive with scenes of nymphs, elves and fairies romping through enchanted forests and make-believe lands. Fairyland Lustre wares were well-received and the range of works produced during the 1920s was remarkable. Makeig-Jones retired in 1931, ending the reign of Fairyland Lustre. Today, these works are extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors.

A similar bowl is pictured on page 134 of Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre by Una des Fontaines.
