description
This extraordinary glass figurine was designed by the French-born American artist Arman and crafted by the famed Daum Nancy studios. Entitled Vénus Tranchlucide, the work represents Arman's first collaboration with Daum in 1997. Produced in a limited edition of 99 copies, it represents the beginning of a highly fruitful partnership between the artist and the crystal studio. As a whole, Vénus Tranchlucide is not only an ode to Arman's artistry, but also a testament to the company's mastery of working with pâte de cristal.

Arman returned to the figure of the Venus de Milo throughout his career, reinterpreting the famed ancient Greek sculpture in glass, bronze and even found objects. She was Arman's tribute to antiquity, and also the perfect subject for him to experiment with an aesthetic based on the act of destruction, a common theme later in his career. This example, crafted of stunning glass with subtle gradations of blues, also pays homage to the splendor of the Greek seas.

This subtlety of color reveals the mastery of Daum's master glass workers. Since they were founded in Nancy, France in 1878, Daum has been a leader in art glass production. Throughout their history, they have collaborated with over 350 artists, including Salvador Dali, Paloma Picasso and Arman. The firm has also been a leader in style and design since the beginning, following trends from Art Nouveau to Art Decoratif and Louis Majorelle to Salvador Dali. Today, works from the company remain highly prized, particularly those that are products of artistic collaborations such as this.
