description
Alexandrite is one of the most mesmerizing precious gems in the world, and its beauty is displayed in these incredible earrings. The gems weigh 2.05 combined carats and are surrounded in their intricate platinum mountings by 0.70 ctw. of white diamonds. Certified by the American Gemological Laboratories to be free of color and clarity enhancements, these exceptional color-changing jewels exhibit the unique green-to-purple color change for which these stones are renowned. This color change depends on the stone’s reaction to natural and incandescent light. It displays an enchanting blue-green in daylight, and a majestic pinkish-purple in incandescent light.

While the Alexandrite’s almost magical trait of dramatically changing colors in varying light makes it extremely valuable, its history makes it all the more intriguing. The first Alexandrite was discovered in Russia in 1834 on the birthday of Czar Alexander II. The czar claimed all subsequent finds of this natural chrysoberyl for the throne, making this truly the gemstone of royalty.
