description
Formed entirely of skillfully worked yellow, rose and white 14K gold, this exceptional cigarette case was created by the New York jewelry firm of Black, Starr & Frost. The motif features three rose gold airplanes flying amongst white gold clouds against a yellow gold sky. This case, which can also be used as a business card holder, is a wonderful specimen of American Art Deco jewelry craftsmanship by one of the country's most prestigious firms.

Known as "America's First Jeweler," Black, Starr & Frost was founded in 1810 by Isacc Marquand, setting the foundations for the luxury goods industry in the United States, and were the first to encourage "window shopping" by utilizing plate glass in their storefront windows to display their brilliant and breathtaking creations for the public. Their showing at the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition caused quite a sensation with their opulent tea service made entirely of pure gold. Black, Starr & Frost were also responsible for the initial creation and design of such works as the West Point Military Academy's first class ring in 1837, the Kearny Cross of Valor in 1863, the first U.S. Open trophy in 1881 and the 1915 Astor Cup of automotive racing.
