description
This historic craps table was once owned by the Beverly Country Club, an upscale night club in Metairie, Louisiana with a checkered past. Once one of the New Orleans area's most notorious — and fashionable — illegal casinos, the club claimed to have been owned by several reputed mob figures during its storied history. It was under the ownership of New Orleans' alleged mob-boss Carlos Marcello (1910-1993) when this table graced its halls. The club was an immediate success under Marcello's management, playing host to some of the most popular entertainers of the mid-20th century, including Rudy Vallee, Sophie Tucker, Jimmy Durante and Joe E. Lewis. Its palatial dining rooms, bars and gaming rooms filled with tables such as this enhanced the jovial, fashionable and illicit atmosphere. The club closed its doors in 1962, though its story continues to fascinate, and the furniture and artifacts from its halls remain highly coveted.
