description
This grand Regency convex mirror with graceful girandoles exhibits masterfully executed carving and rich gilt detailing of the highest order. It features a noble ebony eagle perched above a resplendent acanthus and grape cluster support, a timeless image of power and victory, with a crest of elegant acanthus below. Making this mirror all the more exceptional is the rare addition of girandoles flanking the sides. Suspended from graceful branches, these lighting fixtures are adorned with crystal prisms and shades. Fitted for electricity, the fixtures allow the convex mirror to reflect their light to fill a room. Mirrors of this caliber were made only by the most talented and respected cabinetmakers due to the expense, value and rarity of quality mirror glass. Convex mirrors of the exceptional quality and workmanship observed in this example, possessing its original gilding, mirror plate and girandoles, are incredibly scarce.
