description
Housed in its fitted presentation case is this rare and important revolver à broche pistol created by Lepage Moulier of Paris. The gilding gives the firearm a regal air punctuated by exquisite engraved detailing from the trigger to the tip of the barrel. The revolver à broche firing mechanism, otherwise known as a pin or spindle cartridge, was the first efficient, self-contained cartridge system invented by French gunsmith Casimir Lefaucheux in the 1830s. It was considered so sophisticated that his cartridge revolver became the first ever revolver adopted for official use by a national government.

The gun's barrel is signed "Lepage Moulier el Joure à Paris
, while the lid bears a plaque inscribed: "I Capitani della Brigata / Granatieri di Toscana / al / Cav. Ceca di Vagliercino" (The Captains of the Brigade / Grenadiers of Tuscany / to / Cap. Ceca di Vagliercino"

Circa 1860
