La Parade Nautique du 15 Août, à Venise
(The Nautical Parade of August 15, in Venice)

Signed “H. Claude Pissarro” (lower right)
Pastel on card

This extraordinary pastel is the work of the French painter H. Claude Pissarro. The composition is a stunning addition to the Pissarro family legacy, which began with Pissarro's Impressionist grandfather, the great Camille Pissarro. Boasting a vibrant Post-Impressionist style, the pastel demonstrates Pissarro's remarkable talent for capturing the light and atmosphere of a scene in each and every feathery brushstroke. Under a turquoise-blue sky, Pissarro's Venice glistens with unmistakable brilliance as he deftly captures the grandeur of this lagoon city.

Hailing from a long lineage of painters, Pissarro's artistic talents were cultivated at an early age. He exhibited his first works at the young age of 14, and later studied in Paris at the École du Louvre and École Normale Supérieure. A 1959 White House commission to paint the portrait of President Eisenhower cemented his reputation as an artist of renown, and his work has since been featured in important exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States. While his style has evolved throughout his career, he is best known for his brightly colored works such as the present piece, which are highly collected.

The painting is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
