description
Superbly designed and masterfully crafted, this George IV silver tureen is a remarkable example of Georgian design by one of England's most celebrated silversmiths, Paul Storr. Storr is best known for his incomparable craftsmanship and incredible attention to detail, both of which are evident in this exceptional neoclassical dish. Boldly gadrooned rims adorn the bombé oval body, and elegant shells with elaborate scrolls form a continuous motif around its top edge. The graceful handles also boast incredibly detailing, with beaded edges and beautifully crafted leaves and leaf-tips at their base. Storr masterfully incorporates a stately crest into the design, which pictures an eagle with the words “CAESAR AUGUSTUS”.

Storr was undeniably a master of Georgian silver, and his works can be found around the globe in international collections and museums. With his legacy of neoclassical artistry, he continues to be one of history’s most important and highly collected artisans. During his time, his work was in high demand by the most affluent members of society, including members of the British Royal Family, and pieces by Storr remain among the most coveted silverware today.
