description
This fantastical porcelain bowl is part of the highly celebrated Fairyland Lustre series introduced by Wedgwood in 1915. The whimsical piece is a combination of two drawings from the original body of Fairyland Lustre designs. The very first pattern created in 1915 - Poplar Trees - decorates the exterior of the bowl, while the interior is adorned by the famed Woodland Elves V, Woodland Bridge pattern.

The exterior of the bowl offers an ethereal night vista filled with cypress trees, statues and a fountain. Although the view has touches of orange, purple, green and blue accents, the ground and sky are predominantly black and illuminated by golden glowing swirls. The interior of the bowl displays what is believed to be one of Makeig-Jones' favorite patterns, filled with elves frolicking in the forest with tiny bridges set in the distance. Such inventive designs executed in bold color were the signature of Makeig-Jones’ whimsical works for Wedgwood, which remain highly sought out by collectors.

Marked with the Wedgwood stamp with pattern number Z4968
