description
This very rare Fabergé silver cake basket was created by work master Stefan Wakeva (Stephan Wäkewä) during his tenure at the Moscow workshop (1908-1917). The simplicity of its form is perfectly complimented by an intricate band of repoussé and chased cornucopia encircling the entire rim of the basket. Fine silver from the House of Fabergé is indeed becoming difficult to acquire, since most of the firm’s works, including the court and presentation pieces created for the Czar, were melted down to mint silver ingots and rubles during the political unrest that plagued Russia during the Revolution.

The basket is marked with the Fabergé stamp in Cyrilic, the work master mark “S.W.” for Stefan Wakeva, and the 84 zolotnik stamp.
