description
An exceptional French etched and enameled cameo glass bowl by the famed Daum Nancy studios. Decorated in a vibrant wildflower motif with shades of golden yellow, verdant green and rich auburn, this rare vessel is a prime example of the superb quality and detail for which this firm is known. Daum Nancy glass is among the best and most famous French cameo glass of the Art Nouveau period, from 1890 to 1920. Daum glass was first produced in about 1872, manufacturing plate glass and tableware for the French market in Nancy. The cameo glass for which Daum is renowned was initially produced by Auguste and Antonin Daum around 1890. The firm soon developed new techniques such as the incorporation of metal which was designed by Edgar Brandt, Louis Majorelle, and Andre Groult. Like Gallé, Daum was heavily influenced by nature, which led to the production of many floral and scenic works. Daum glass is highly desirable among collectors today, especially items of such incredible artistry and quality.
