description
This exceptional pair of Paris porcelain campana vases by Darte Frères is of the finest porcelain artistry. Each elegant form is enveloped in elaborate, hand-executed classical paintings surrounded by stunning gilt and in grisaille accents, while the porcelain plinths are rendered in an incredibly realistic marble finish. Created with exquisite detail, these stunning vases epitomize Darte’s reputation for superb quality.

Darte Frères, began by brothers Louis-Joseph and Jean-Francois Darte, was one of the most highly regarded of the 19th-century Paris porcelain factories, noted for its fine quality porcelain and exquisite decoration. Established in 1801, the porcelain makers were winning awards for their work as early as the exhibition of 1806, firstly for their everyday use porcelain, and soon after for their elaborately decorated large-scale pieces such as this pair of vases. The factory was not long-lived, but was a favorite and under royal protection of Emperor Napoleon’s mother, and was appointed supplier of porcelain to the Empress Joséphine. To find pieces of such exquisite quality is truly rare.
