    description
This wonderful planter is a fine example of jasper Adams Ware. The pot displays the nearly-violet "Adams blue" with a hunting scene executed in white relief.

The Adams family had been potters since the 15th century. In 1657, the father and son partnership of Robert and John Adams founded Brick House Potteries. It was that momentus year that their decendent and creater of Adams Ware, William Adams of Tunstall (1745-1805), chose to place in his trademark. William Adams perfected his craft under the direction of Josiah Wedgwood, and was believed to be his teacher's favorite student. In 1789, Adams moved on to establish his own pottery works, creating splendid patterns and even establishing the firm's signature "Adams blue" hue. The firm was passed down through the family until 1966, when it was purchased by Wedgwood.

The base of the planter bears the Adams impressed marks.
