Charles VI, known as le Bien-Aimé ("the Well-Beloved") or le Fol ("the Mad"), ruled France from 1380 until his death in 1422. The king ascended to the throne at the tender age of 11, but he ruled under the guidance of his uncles until he reached the age of 20. His reign spanned over four decades during the turbulent Hundred Years’ War, despite his intermittent bouts of illness. His mental health challenges sparked a keen interest in alchemy and the occult. He also demonstrated a genuine concern for the welfare of France's commoners, evidenced by his inclusion of non-aristocrats among his counselors.
