Sidney Richard Percy

Sidney Richard Percy was one of the most important landscape painters of the Victorian period. Born into an artistic dynasty, his father and five brothers were also successful artists. Percy dropped his surname of Williams to avoid confusion with his other family members and emerged as one of the most prolific and admired painters of the Victorian era. His work was much sought after during his lifetime and continues to be of great interest to collectors of fine art. His most famous patron was Prince Albert, who on his own birthday gave a Percy landscape to his wife Queen Victoria, which now resides in the Royal Collection at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
