This silver two-handled trophy cup was presented at the 1970 Woodward Stakes horse race to winner Personality. The Woodward Stakes is one of the premier races for older thoroughbred horses in the United States, and this stunning trophy certainly reflects its prestige. Crafted by Ensko in a classical urn shape, the trophy features acanthus-accented handles, a baluster-form removable cover with a matching finial, and intricate foliate engraving along the body. Inscribed to mark the occasion, the trophy was presented to celebrated thoroughbred Personality, who was owned by Ethel D. Jacobs, the leading owner of thoroughbred horses for three years, and the wife of Hirsch Jacobs, a well-respected Hall of Fame trainer. Thanks to his win at the Woodward Stakes and several other high-profile races, Personality was named American Horse of the Year in 1970.
