This majestic Wedgwood bust of King George II is beautifully crafted of Wedgwood's highly desirable Staffordshire redware, or rosso antico. After a sculpture by John Michael Rysbrack, this bust is mounted atop a raised stepped plinth. Produced by Wedgwood during the late 18th century, redware was used mainly for household items such as teapots and flower vases. To find a decorative item of such an august personage is extremely rare.
