  • Origin:
A pair of young satyrs frolics in this enchanting pair of Wedgwood majolica candlesticks. Boating exceptional glazing and color, these lights were part of the renowned Kadison Collection, which featured some of the rarest Wedgwood in the world, and were part of the 1971 Wedgwood exhibit at San Francisco's de Young Museum in 1971. Wedgwood began to manufacture majolica circa 1861. The company produced a variety of items in this exciting style, including cachepots, pitchers, candlesticks, cheese bells, umbrella stands, sardine boxes, plates and bread trays. These items boast dense glazes and subjects that were sometimes formal and sometimes naturalistic and humorous. Though the art form was a departure from their signature jasper wares, the same superior level of craftsmanship can be seen in these remarkable earthenwares. Today, Wedgwood majolica is by far the most desirable for collectors of fine ceramics.

Marked "WEDGWOOD" and features date marks for 1871
