This spectacular and rare Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre vase in the fascinating Candlemas pattern was introduced by Daisy Makeig-Jones in 1917. In 1927, the design was altered to fit the shape of this lovely vase. Though known for her highly imaginative and fanciful patterns, many of Makeig-Jones' motifs were based on celebrations and folklore that had existed for generations. This particular pattern is based on the festival of Candlemas (commonly known as the Presentation of the Lord), which commemorates the end of the Christmas and Epiphany season. The celebration is rendered in phenomenal detail on this vase with symbols of the feast.
