This enchanting antique Wedgwood black basalt inkwell is crafted in the form of an ancient oil lamp. With a removable well and holes for storing pens and quills, it is decorated with exquisitely hand-painted enamel in a Chinese-inspired floral design. One of Josiah Wedgwood's most revolutionary creations, basalt was developed during the late 1760s. This fine-grained stoneware was suitable for casting and was used for a myriad of items, including vases, urns, and remarkable hand-painted forms such this inkwell.
