A very rare Wedgwood crimson jasper biscuit barrel with a delicate Neoclassical decoration. Jasperware is one of Wedgwood's crowning achievements, and is highly acclaimed for revolutionizing ceramic art. Consisting of a white stoneware body which could be colored by the addition of metal oxides, the composition of jasper was a most closely guarded secret. Crimson jasper pieces were only produced by Wedgwood for a short period of time during the 1920s and are extremely rare and highly collectible. Excellent condition.
