The individual features and personalities of these celebrated philosophers are articulately expressed in this exceptional, fine-grained material. Wedgwood first developed basalt in the 1760s and since then, the firm has used this revolutionary substance for portraits of the most renowned and respected figures of the day for over two centuries. Today, figures crafted of black basalt are in high demand among collectors. Excellent condition.
