Wedgwood pays tribute to the Bard of Avon in this black basalt bust of William Shakespeare. Perhaps the most famous and revered writer In English literature, Shakespeare was quite the literal wordsmith, as he was responsible for inventing over 1700 words and phrases that we still use today. Likewise, Josiah Wedgwood's creations have also stood the test of time. Black basalt refers to the fine-grained stoneware that the famed ceramicist, inspired by the hard, natural stone known as Egyptian basalt, developed in the 1760s. Today, wares crafted of this beautiful pottery are highly desirable and sought by collectors.
