A soldier draws his sword in this dramatic white jasper plaque by Wedgwood & Bentley. Jasperware is one of Wedgwood's crowning achievements, and is highly acclaimed for revolutionizing ceramic art. The invention of the jasper body circa 1775 enabled Wedgwood to produce white cameo reliefs both on colored ground decorative items and in portraits items such as this plaque.
