This early and extremely rare table lamp by Tiffany Studios, in the exceptional Peony pattern, is monumental in size, with one of the largest shades ever created by this celebrated firm. Glorious red blooms and verdant leaves set against a deep, royal blue background cover the 12-sided shade. Topped with a vented bronze finial and edged with delicate beading, the shade rests atop a patinated bronze base in Tiffany's Acanthus style, an exotic tripod form with three pad feet, adorned with a splendid lotus accent. The peony was a Tiffany Studios favorite and inspired shades in a number of shapes, including the globe and this paneled form. A complex and well-balanced design, this lamp displays the careful execution and intensity of color for which Tiffany is known. All components of this stunning composition are original Tiffany Studios pieces, except the wiring which was redone for safety purposes. An almost identical shade is featured in Tiffany Lamps and Metalware by Alastair Duncan.
