This exquisite Tiffany & Co. silver flatware service exhibits the stunning English King pattern. Fashioned to reflect the elaborate entertaining styles of the Gilded Age, this 156-piece service for 12, which includes silver and partial gilt pieces,  is a superb example of the elegance for which Tiffany was renowned. In addition, the lunch and dinner knives were crafted with blades by renowned Sheffield maker Joseph Rodgers & Sons Ltd., Cutlers to Their Majesties. Complete and in excellent condition, this set is housed within its magnificent, fitted wooden chest.

The English King pattern was introduced by Tiffany in 1885 under the direction of Edward C. Moore. Considered one of the most elegant patterns ever produced, the shell design is subtle in its differences from its British counterpart of the same name, yet retains the key design elements that endeared it from the beginning. The result is a classic design transformed by Tiffany's gift for innovation, which consequently received an exclusive patent. Versions of this pattern have been made in electroplate by virtually every major silverware manufacturer in the United States. Tiffany's version, however, was the only one to be crafted in sterling silver. English King has remained one of the company's most popular patterns and enjoys a great following both in the United States and abroad.
