In this intriguing porcelain figure by Meissen, the fruits of the vine are prepared and enjoyed by rambunctious children. Though the subject matter of this highly detailed figure, entitled Wine Pressers, may perplex, the superb artistry and well-balanced design make a first-class impression. Elegant gold-accented scrolls at the base complete this sumptuous Baroque tableau. Founded in the early 18th century, the Meissen factory was the first European ceramics manufacturer to produce "true" or hard-paste porcelain, and remained unrivaled in terms of innovation and beauty for decades.
