This exceptional gold and grisaille enamel snuffbox is a work of proficient Swiss artistry. Crafted in an elongated octagon shape, this snuff box is adorned with two classically inspired panels of grisaille enamel, bordered by hand-chased and etched gold floral borders. Works of skillful and attentive artistry, snuff containers like this were among the most fashionable luxury items from the 16th to the 18th centuries, and were often exchanged as gifts, especially among gentlemen. To find an example of such excellent quality is truly rare.
