This outstanding still life was executed in the school of Abraham von Beyesen. The student who completed this remarkable work paid this Dutch master much respect, staying true to his uncanny ability to portray the play of light upon multiple surfaces. Von Beyesen was not well noted for his skill in his day, but today, art critics and connoisseurs regard his highly detailed canvases to be the most brilliant of the Dutch Baroque period.
This painting is extremely similar to a still life by Abraham von Beyesen currently housed by the Munich Pinakotech entitled Still Life with Fruit.
