A lovely red glass and sterling silver claret jug crafted in the shape of a parakeet. The red-eyed bird stands upon two sterling silver feet, balanced by its curved tail, while it reveals its lower beak to be a pouring spout with a flip of its head. Claret jugs in the shape of animals are among the most desirable jugs. These are extremely rare, and those of such unusual form and workmanship are especially prized. A similar item is featured in The Decanter: An Illustrated History of Glass from 1650 by Andy McConnell.
