This rare and remarkable silver-mounted glass bottle is comprised of a wide bottomed glass container overlaid with a lattice of sterling silver, which displays an outstanding thistle pattern and monogram. The bottle's cork stopper is also mounted in silver, and the neck features the pierced engraving "February 25th." The first effective method of electroplating silver on glass and porcelain was developed in 1889, in Birmingham, England by Oscar Pierre Erard. This method was patented by an American, John H. Scharling, in 1893, and by 1895, the Americans, Czechs, Italians, French, English and Austrians were producing exciting glassware in this complex style.
