This amazing mirrored plateau creates a fantastic lake scene in gilded and silvered bronze. It is crafted to resemble a tranquil lake, around which four silvered putti bask next to smaller pools. A tour-de-force of extravagant Rococo design, this charming plateau is set on scrolling feet and accented with porcelain flowers and vine-covered fences.
Due to the expense and scarcity of gold and silver, French artisans developed the process of gilding bronze, a more malleable metal, for decorative purposes. The final product became known as ormolu (or, gold and moulu, ground) and objects adorned with gilded bronze influenced decorative tastes across the European continent.
