    20th Century

This stunning pair of Scottish silver stirrup cups bears the maker's mark of Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh. These highly detailed cups are formed in the shape of fox heads and exhibit marvelous chasing and repoussé work. Beautiful gilt wash interiors add an elegant touch while making them suitable for drinking. Traditionally, stirrup cups were used for farewell drinks, often presented to a rider already mounted for departure with their feet in the stirrups. Commonly connected with hunting, these cups were used to serve the traditional drink (usually port or sherry) served at the meet, prior to and after a foxhunt.
