This intriguing Imperial silver trompe-l'oeil cigar box is a wonder of superior Russian silver. This clever container features rare and luminous lemon-gilding, and is engraved on the sides and the cover in an intricate wood grain. Furthermore, accents representing tobacco tax bands with the Russian Imperial eagle and the Cyrillic inscription "Imported Tobacco" encircle the box as an enamel horseshoe and riding crop adorn the lid.
Marked at the bottom and on the cover with 84 standard kokoshnik mark of assayer Ivan Lebedkin, as well as what is believed to be the maker's mark of Feodor Ovchinnikov.
