A large and elaborate Rococo Revival mirror encircled by a carved and gilded wood and gesso frame of foliate scrolls and reticulated vines. Even though mirrors of this substantial size were in great demand during the period, they were also very rare and few were ever made. The glass to create such important works was extremely difficult and expensive to produce, and the frames were time consuming to create. To own a mirror of any size, particularly one as large as this, was an extraordinary luxury afforded to only the wealthiest households.
