This fine bowfront, graduated chest of drawers dates to the English Regency period and is handcrafted of attractive mahogany with satinwood banding on the frieze. The chest has three lockable drawers, rests upon splayed bracket feet and features a felt-lined brushing slide, so called because one of its primary purposes was to provide a surface for brushing down clothes. The slide pulls forward, "sliding" from of a slot in the top, to provide extra working surface to compile one's ensemble for the day. A similar example is featured in Miller's Late Georgian to Edwardian Furniture Buyer's Guide, 1998, page 297. Circa 1820 36" wide x 21 7/8" deep x 33 1/8" high
