This elegant arm chair exemplifies the gracious Regency style. Adorned with luxurious upholstery on the back, seat and sides, this enchanting chair boasts classically inspired elements, from the gently scrolling back and gilt bronze accented arms to the ormolu busts, gilded fluting and lion's paw feet. These elements reflect the popularity of Greek and Roman antiquity, which dominated interior fashions throughout the first half of the 19th century. Beautiful examples of period Regency furniture are extremely difficult to acquire, especially those of such charming design, superior workmanship and fantastic condition as this arm chair. Circa 1815 27" wide x 24 1/2" deep x 35 3/4" high Named after the Prince Regent, Prince of Wales, the phrase "Regency Period" generally refers to English furniture produced from 1790-1840. Because only the finest materials were used in the production of furniture from the early 19th century, it is often considered one of the most expensive periods of English furniture. The Prince Regent took a great interest in fashion and design and in a sense became the ruler of taste and artistic perception. Wealthy patrons in England, basking in their successes from the Industrial Revolution, delighted in following the Prince's taste for Neoclassical design commissioning tables and fine furnishings such as this chair.
