This fabulous Victorian sterling silver tray by the renowned Walker and Hall silversmiths of London was presented by Queen Victoria to the Superintendent of the London and Northwestern Railways, George P. Neele, Esq. in June, 1895. The inscription on the tray reads: "Presented to George P. Neele, Esq. by Queen Victoria as a Mark of Appreciation of the Personal Care and Attention that he has for so many years devoted to Her Majesty on her railway journeys to and from Scotland, June 1895."
Neele directly references receiving this tray from Her Majesty in his book entitled Railway Reminiscences, on page 531. Published in 1904, the book is a collection of notes and stories about his 50-year career as the Railway Superintendent and Queen Victoria's trips to and from Scotland. To find a magnificent work of silver accompanied by an outstanding provenance is truly extraordinary.
