Without question, this important period Queen Anne walnut secretaire is one of the most astounding and significant examples of fine English furniture we have had the pleasure to offer. Boasting highly desirable arched "double-bonnet" cabinet doors, beveled mirrors, and a writing surface lined with embossed leather, this secretaire is skillfully constructed with a choice of compartments in which to hide one's important documents and valuables. Opening the double doors and lowering the writing surface reveals a selection of drawers and pigeonholes, but further exploration reveals a myriad of hidden compartments, behind certain valances, Doric columns, hinged panels in the double arches and the folio slide behind the writing desk. Adorned with original locks and pulls, this magnificent piece is simply amazing.
The expert craftsmanship of such a complicated item required the skill and attentive workmanship of the finest cabinetmakers, to which its high level of quality can attest. Queen Anne-period pieces are highly sought-after and one boasting the quality and craftsmanship of this caliber is a rarity.
