Archille Brocot was the eldest son of famed clockmaker Louis-Gabriel Brocot, the creator of several clock mechanism advancements, including the highly accurate Brocot escapement. Archille's claim to fame was his design for the highly effective perpetual calendar mechanism seen in this extraordinary example. He and fellow clockmaker J.B. Delettrez became partners circa 1850, operating on the Rue Charlot in Paris. The pair was in business together until sometime in 1870, when Delettrez acquired the firm's patents. Historically, clocks crafted by Brocot and Delettrez not only exhibit incredible ingenuity, but also exceptional cases utilizing the finest materials of the day.
