Legendary silversmith Paul Storr showcased his remarkable skill in these elegant covered sauce tureens. Exhibiting a sublime Neoclassical design, these dishes are exquisite examples of Storr's talent for detailed execution, from the delicate fruit basket finials to the scrolling handles with suspended rings. Of equal interest is the intricately engraved marital coat-of-arms of Ellis Brooke Cunliffe and Emma Florence Sparling, which, complete with the motto "Fideliter," graces the bowls. Four sets of family crests complete this stately pair. Storr was one of the defining voices of Georgian silver. His mastery of the Neoclassical style placed him at the forefront of the silver craft for over four decades, and his work was in demand by the most affluent members of society, including members of the British Royal Family. Today, pieces by Storr are among the most coveted silverware with collectors and connoisseurs.

Hallmarked London, 1803

Ellis Brooke and Emma Florence were married on the 27th July 1867. On her father's death in 1890, Emma Florence inherited the family estate of Petton Park. Ellis Brooke served as a Captain in the 6th Dragoon Guards both in the Crimea and in India during the Indian Mutiny. Given the passage of time between the hallmarked date and the couple's marriage, it may be presumed that either of their families may have been in possession of these tureens, or that they were purchased and engraved by the couple themselves.
