The pipe-smoking dogs are perhaps the most rare of the Staffordshire dog models. This wonderful pair, enjoying a quiet smoke, rest on green bases with gilt accents. These figures are inspired by the work of Sir Edwin Landseer, famous commercial artist of the 19th century and a favorite of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.An almost identical pair is pictured on page 132 of Clive Mason Pope's A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs.
