Sixty-one beautifully matched South Sea pearls comprise this extra-long Opera-length necklace. Each elegant white orb exhibits the outstanding luster and peerless allure for which South Sea pearls are legendary. As versatile as it is beautiful, this necklace is long enough to be worn as a single or double strand. The pearls range in size from an impressive 13 mm to 15 mm, much larger than the average South Sea pearl. A lovely 14K white gold ball clasp secures this magnificent necklace.
Found in the favorable warm waters of the South Seas, these fantastic pearls are produced by the Pinctada Maxima mollusk and are cultured in tiny locales throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The nacre (the substance of which pearls are comprised) of these incredible pearls is unusually thick, ranging between 2 mm and 6 mm, compared to the 0.35 mm to 0.7 mm of the more common akoya pearl. This gives the South Sea pearl its renowned luster, making it among the most desirable of all cultured pearls.
