Famed German Neoclassical painter Johann Friedrich August Tischbein presents a tender moment between a young couple in love in this beautiful painting entitled Mystery Suitor. Inspired by the works of Thomas Gainsborough, Tischbein's attention to detail and technical precision earned him court appointments as the official portrait painter for both the German and Russian courts.
Tischbein hailed from a long line of gifted artists, and gained much of his knowledge in painting from his father Johann Valentin Tischbein. Most of his formal education came from his studies in Paris, Rome, Naples and the Art Academy in Leipzig. His paintings are highly prized among collectors and can be found in important museum collections around the world.
