This stunning French mystery clock garniture is a delight to behold, combining captivating artistry with mechanical genius. The bronze Grecian figures stand upon white onyx bases, with the clock maiden holding the pendulum above the Roman numeral-numbered clock face. However, the mystery is that neither the maiden nor the pendulum is connected to the clock base, yet the pendulum still swings and regulates the clock! Matching six-light candelabra complete this elegant suite. Mystery clocks are among the most fascinating mechanisms ever created. Crafting them required a singular aptitude and talent. One of most renowned makers of these timepieces, Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin, inspired generations of clock makers, inventors and magicians, most notably Harry Houdini, who derived his name from Robert-Houdin. To find a mystery clock garniture in such beautiful, working condition is truly rare.
