Emerald
This brilliant 11.85-carat Colombian emerald is enveloped in a rich foliate carving in the Mogul taste. Displaying incredible transparency and color, this vibrant gem is bezel set in shimmering 22K yellow gold. The carving present on this emerald is consistant with those used to adorn precious jewels during the height of the Mogul Empire. A kingdom of tremendous wealth, Mogul rulers had a flair for the luxurious and most beautiful objects, including emeralds. It is believed such stunning Colombian emeralds were purchased through Spain, which held a rich emerald deposit in the South American country, placing the purchase of this type of emerald sometime during the 17th century. The largest and most famed example of these ornate gems is the Mogul Emerald, a 217.80 carat Colombian emerald tablet adorned with Islamic writings on one side, and foliate designs on the reverse, which are strikingly similar to those on this elegant ring.
