A wonderful Mettach beer stein by Villeroy & Boch of Germany, with an English verse. The verse reads, "Were it the last drop in the well. As I casped upon the brink, ere my fainting spirit fell. Tis to that I would drink." The image painted on the porcelain lid is of a girl with a goblet of beer. This beautiful .5 liter stein retains its original pewter thumb hinge which is in the shape of a cherub holding a goblet and is in excellent condition. The stein was certainly intended for export to either England or the USA.
The stein bears the incised Mettlach abbey mark above the form number "2640" and the date mark of "10" for the year 1910.
Circa, 1910
